Ajisai

In Japan it is said that every season has its flower. Ajisai in nihongo or hydrangea in English. In Japan it flourishes in June and that's when I will be all smiley to see the Ajisai out again. It is one of my favorite flower. Insyaallah in my next tole painting lesson, I want to paint this flower so far has not done so.

Ajisai comes in many colours, many shades of pink, purple, maroon, blue, lilac, white and cream. The leaves around the flower are not petals but actually calyxes. The core of the flower is the small bud in the center.

Ajisai is the true Japanese flower of rainy season. Hopefully I get to plant this flower when I'm back home. It needs a lot of water and has to live in a wet soil.
