ALFS Bazaar

ALFS stands for Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society.

This organization was founded 41 years ago by Mutsuko Miki, widow of former Prime Minister Takeo Miki. From its inception, the society aimed to strengthen understanding and friendship among women of the Asia-Pacific region. Today (as I counted yesterday), ALFS counts 24 member countries. It maintains a welfare fund for regular donations to institutions in each member country and an emergency relief fund earmarked for natural disaster victims.

Yesterday, the annual ALFS Charity Bazaar was held at ANA Inter-Continental Hotel. The proceeds of which were shared between the participating countries and Malaysia is a participating country. Yang Berbahagia Datin Jazliza Jalaludin, wife of the Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, is the chairwoman of this year’s Asia-Pacific Festival and Charity Bazaar.

It was a success this year for the Malaysian team as all the Perwakilan members were together in giving their full commitment and very good teamwork. This year, we sold nasi lemak with sambal and beef rendang, kuih bakar, apam manis, karipap, pulut inti, and pulut serunding. The event opens their door to the public at 10.30 am and before 12 pm, our booth ran out of food for interested buyers. So laku yesterday. Well done ladies... But I must say the nasi lemak, sambal and beef rendang were delicious. Looks like the ladies here have got hidden talents.

Together with two other ladies, I was given the task to handle the flower arrangements. Thanks to Kak Normah and Mala...we had so much fun doing the arrangements although initially we were a bit stressed up.
